Update your graphics drivers
Poor graphical performance might be an indicator that your graphics drivers are out of date. Make sure your drivers are up to date:
Windows
Before you update your drivers you'll need to identify what make and model of Graphics Card you have in your system.
Here's how to identify your graphics card:
- Click the Start button/Run
- Type DxDiag and hit Enter
- Click the display tab
- Your graphics card make is shown next to Manufacturer
- The model is next to Chip Type
You can now update your Drivers on Windows.
Note - You will need full admin access on the computer in order to update your drivers
- Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer:
- Search for your graphics card model & name
- Download graphics drivers
- Run the downloaded installer package
- Restart your computer
Change your graphics settings
if you're device is struggling to render SCUM's graphics, it might be that your graphics settings are too high for your device to handle. Try reducing your Graphics settings to see if your performance improves:
- Open the Settings menu
- Hit Graphics
- Under Graphics Preset, try selecting a lower graphics setting than you're currently using
- If needed, you can also tweak specific settings further down in the menu
PC Performance
If you're experiencing graphical issues, it might be an indicator of underlying performance issues on your device. Not to worry - follow the troubleshooting steps outlined here!
Blurry, distorted shadows
If you're playing SCUM and the shadows seem blurry or distorted, it might be an issue with the Distance Field Ambient Occlusion setting (DFAO.) Disabling this setting should resolve the issue:
- Open the Settings menu
- Open the Graphics settings section
- Turn DISTANCE FIELD AMBIENCE OCCLUSION to OFF
Mirrored, blurry textures
This effect can commonly be identified as a bug or graphical error, but is actually an intended game mechanic. You can confirm if you're affected by doing the following:
- Jump into a single player or multiplayer world (depending on where you experienced this issue)
- Hit Shift + Q and open the Character menu
- Head to the Health or Metabolism section
- Check the Health or Metabolism section for conditions like Drunkenness or Disorientation
- If you see either of these conditions, this is the reason you're seeing mirrored, blurry textures
