Restart your PC
Try closing all open applications and restarting your PC/console. Sometimes, a fresh start is all you need!
Restart your modem/router
Turn off and unplug your modem/router to initiate a power cycle. You'll need to leave at least 30 seconds before you plug them back in
Improve your network connection
If you're using wi-fi, try switching to an ethernet cable (AKA a hard connection). Hard connections provide you with the highest reliability and speed your internet has to offer
If that's not possible, close other programs that access the internet (such as other games, streaming music, videos, or anything that is using the internet to download or upload) to improve the wireless connection
Check your modem/router's firewall settings
Sometimes, your modem/router's firewall settings may cause connection issues.
You'll need to review any support material provided on your internet service provider OR get in contact with their support team for more guidance.
Contact your internet service provider
It's possible the issue is caused by an issue with your internet provider's service. Get in touch with your provider's support team to get clued in on any known issues.
Reduce your network traffic
Some third-party programs running in the background or other devices running on your network can interfere with your connection to SCUM. Try closing any background applications to see if the performance improves
You can see real-time graphs of total CPU, memory, disk, network, and GPU resource usage for your system by heading to Task manager > Performance
Turn off any VPNs/proxies
Using a VPN or Proxy server can sometimes cause connection issues. If you notice any issues, consider following your provider's instructions to disable these services
Check your PC's firewall settings
Make sure you’ve allowed Steam and all of its data to pass through by setting up exceptions in your firewall
Try flushing your DNS
Your PC keeps a record of IP/DNS records for quick access to websites. Flushing your DNS clears these and might help fix your connectivity issue
- Open Command Prompt
- Enter ipconfig/flushdns
Release and renew your IP address
A refreshed IP address may be all you need – follow the steps below then reload.
- Open Command Prompt
- Enter ipconfig/release to release your IP
- Once the prompt returns, enter ipconfig/renew to renew your IP
'Connection Lost' when connecting to a multiplayer server
This issue typically occurs when your game client is struggling to connect to an official or private server. Below are a list of common troubleshooting steps that may resolve this issue:
- Try performing the common connection issues troubleshooting steps above.
- Ensure that SCUM is installed on a SSD (or Solid State Drive.) If SCUM is installed on a HDD (or Hard Disk Drive), try installing SCUM on an SSD instead.
- Ensure that you do not have an active VPN.
- Delete your SCUM save folder. This should be located under the following directory:
- C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\SCUM
- WARNING - Doing this will delete your single player progress and your current settings. This will not affect any progress on multiplayer servers.
